What is spagyrics?
Spagyrics is a traditional naturopathic method for processing plant and mineral substances. The term is derived from the Greek words “spao” (to separate) and “ageiro” (to unite).
At its core is the idea of first separating the valuable components of a plant and then recombining them. This is intended to produce particularly finely refined essences.
Today, spagyric essences are primarily used in the field of naturopathy and are often associated with concepts such as inner balance, regeneration, and holistic well-being.
The History of Spagyrics
Modern spagyrics traces its origins to the physician and natural philosopher Paracelsus. As early as the 16th century, he was engaged in alchemical processes and holistic healing methods.
Spagyric medicine arose from the notion that body, mind, and soul are interconnected and should be considered together. This holistic concept continues to shape spagyric medicine to this day.
Alchemy also played an important role in this context. Contrary to popular belief, it was not solely about the production of gold, but rather the study of substances, their properties, and their transformation.
The Basic Principles of Spagyric Medicine
In spagyric doctrine, three active principles are traditionally distinguished:
1. Mercury
Symbolizes the mobile and spiritual aspects of the essence.
2. Sulfur
Is associated with the subtle and emotional levels.
3. Salt
Represents the mineral and physical components.
These three principles are said to work together in spagyric essences and support the holistic approach of spagyric medicine.

The three fundamental principles of spagyric medicine—Mercury, Sulfur, and Salt—traditionally represent mind, emotion, and body and form the foundation of the holistic spagyric approach.
Difference from other naturopathic methods
Naturopathy encompasses many different approaches—for example:
- Phytotherapy
- Homeopathy
- Bach flower remedies
- Schüßler salts
- TCM
Spagyrics combines elements from various naturopathic disciplines. This results in a particularly holistic approach that considers not only individual symptoms but the person as a whole.
How are spagyric essences produced?
There are various methods for producing spagyric essences. The methods developed by Zimpel and Glückselig are particularly well-known.
Production traditionally involves several steps:
- Breakdown of the plant through fermentation
- Distillation of the plant components
- Incineration of the plant residues
- Recovery of the minerals
- Filtration and bottling of the essence
This process produces spagyric essences, which can then be individually combined.

Spagyric essences are traditionally produced in several processing steps—from fermentation and distillation to the reintroduction of minerals and bottling of the essence.
Spagyric Blends at Zimply Natural
Zimply Natural individually combines spagyric essences into natural formulations. In the process, medicinal plants, Schüssler salts, Bach flowers, and homeopathic elements are combined.
The Formulas are based on the expertise of the medical advisory board and are custom-made by partner pharmacies. Depending on individual needs, this results in a variety of blends tailored to different life situations and specific concerns.
